Archimedes had it all wrong. The best ideas don’t come in the bath— they sprout at night. Perhaps the famous mathematician was simply dozing off right before he suddenly shouted “eureka.” But we’ve all been there… waking up in the morning, struggling to remember that brilliant idea from the night before. The real trick is to always have pen and paper ready by your bed. And so it was that seven years ago, in the middle of the night, Bart was scribbling away.
The next morning, he contacted Erik. After all, it was their earlier successful collaboration in creating a professional grass arena for an internationally renowned jumping tournament that had set the gears turning in Bart’s mind.
So what was the brilliant idea? By combining the knowledge and experience of sand master Bart and grass specialist Erik, an innovative, comprehensive, sustainable, self-regulating, and highly athletic football field concept could be developed.
In the past, experiments were made with grass on white sand. Without the right knowledge, this often remained a temporary solution. By carefully adjusting the composition and grain size of the sand and combining it with a well-considered grass seed mixture, a robust system was created— a soil in which grass can grow sustainably, with strong roots and optimal performance.
Engineer and nutrient expert Philippe examined the system… quite literally with a magnifying glass. For minutes he remained silent, until he stood up and said: “What you are doing here goes against everything I teach. But it works. And it works brilliantly.”
But for Bart, Erik, and Philippe, excellent is never good enough. They kept testing, fine-tuning, and adjusting until the perfect balance between foundation, sand, and grass seed was achieved.
And now? Bart’s idea is ready to amaze the football world. Housed in a giant bathtub. Maybe Archimedes was right after all.
